Membership Development Manager

Job Description

Primary tasks of the Membership Development Manager include recruiting businesses to join and establishing relationships with businesses who are members of the Aurora Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The manager will have an office in the Chamber, but it is expected that a majority of their time will be spent out of the office visiting local employers to discuss the benefits and value of chamber membership, attend events etc. The manager will engage in appropriate prospecting activities to achieve monthly new member, retention, and revenue goals. 
Adherence to organization policy and procedures are critical for success in the position. Deviation from the existing policy and procedures must be approved by the supervisor. Suggestions to improve existing policies are encouraged.
Organization personnel have exposure to sensitive financial, member, vendor, and other information. Due to this knowledge, this position requires utmost respect for organization’s confidentiality policies. Information known by the office manager may not be divulged to anyone in the organization other than approved personnel. As this position requires interactions with team members, exposure to personal information must be held in confidence.
The Membership Development Manager will be competent in prioritizing and working with little supervision. They will be self-motivated and trustworthy and comfortable speaking to groups or individuals in a prospecting capacity.
Essential Functions:
  • Assist in planning and developing chamber programming
  • Conduct member surveys to increase member awareness of member needs and benefits; evaluate and recommend new member benefits to President
  • Contact all new members within the first month of membership to welcome to the Chamber. 
  • Coordinate with team concerning marketing, news releases, and Aurora Chamber publications; submit membership-related articles and photos for publications
  • Establish positive working relationships with member organizations to support member retention; work with President and team to establish and carry out a plan of personal contact for members
  • Maintain a targeted retention rate of existing Chamber members
  • Maintain a territory of prospects from outside sources as well as the established database. 
  • Maintain active contact with members; identify opportunities to upgrade accounts and anticipate extra attention needed to retain a membership
  • Meet weekly appointment and sales presentation goals 
  • Must consistently prospect, schedule and attend meetings with potential members. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and transportation.
  • Occasionally supervise committees 
  • Plan and execute regularly scheduled New Member Orientations that will inform new members about ways in which they may receive the most value from chamber membership
  • Responsible for working within membership budget
  • Sales must be achieved through personal contact and other materials approved by the Chamber. 
  • Work with team to develop and coordinate marketing plan and the development of new programs for member services and retention
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Computer Literate: MS Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher), Industry Software
  • Above average customer service skills, organizational skills, planning skills
  • Ability to demonstrate flexibility, take initiative, maintain professional appearance
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelors preferred
Sales: Minimum of two years business-to-business experience with new business development experience
