Nov 6 Take Charge of Your Health: A Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP) |
In just three weeks, October 2, 2018, the PMMC Health Institute begins hosting Take Charge of Your Health, a Chronic Disease Self-Management Program (CDSMP). The program is a series of workshops, designed for adults age 55 and older* who want to take charge of their ongoing health problems such as arthritis, MS, fibromyalgia, COPD, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. Developed by Stanford University, the program has been proven to help adults with chronic diseases find practical ways to deal with pain & fatigue, discover better nutrition & exercise choices, and learn better ways to talk with their family and doctor about their health. (It has actually been shown that program participants have fewer visits to physician offices and emergency rooms, even two years after participants completed the workshop!)
This FREE six-week program will be held every Tuesday from October 2 through November 6, 2018 from 9:30 am-12:00 noon at the PMMC Health Institute, 1975 Melissa Lane, Aurora 60506. Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions, an invaluable resource book for anyone living with a chronic illness, is also provided free. Registrants need to call 877.737.4636. Nov 15 - Nov 30 Shoot for Christmas Cheer Extended by popular request!!!!! |
Attention all archers! We know the archery community has a big heart and we are asking for you to help bring a smile to a child’s face on Christmas morning. Toys for Tots has been making this happen since 1947 and Nock and Feather is proud to be a part of this campaign. Nock and Feather Kustom Archery is hosting a Shoot for Christmas Cheer to benefit Toys for Tots. The entry fee is a new, unwrapped toy, for Toys for Tots (minimum $15.00 value). We have expanded the shoot due several requests to run over the Thanksgiving break. Scores can be shot any time during open range time November15th through 30th, winners will be announced December 3rd. There will be four classes Male over 18, Female over 18, Youth 12-18, Youth 8-11. There will be a prize for the highest score in each class. You may submit multiple scores by donating a toy each time. Stop by at 439 S. Lake Street, Aurora or call 630-896-3854 for more information and to reserve your time. We are a collection site for Toys for Tots and happily accept donations during store hours, Monday-Friday noon-9:00p.m. and Saturday 9:00a.m.-5:00p.m. This is a great chance to have some fun on the range and help Toys for Tots spread some Christmas Cheer.
More archers=more toys=more happy children on Christmas morning.

Nov 15 John N. Low, PhD “The Power of Place: The Indigenous Peoples of Northeastern Illinois & the Fox River Valley” |
Join Pokagon Potawatomi Indian John N. Low as he discusses the history of the use of a vast network of trails and portages in Northeastern Illinois between two great water systems: the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. Indigenous peoples had long settled in villages in what is now northeastern Illinois, prior to contact with Europeans. Northeastern Illinois was one of the best places to portage between two great water systems: the Mississippi River and the Great Lakes. Native peoples could paddle to the St. Lawrence River or Allegheny River in the east, and on to the Atlantic Ocean or south to the Gulf of Mexico or to the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in the west. Native Americans understood the importance of this geography and took advantage of this portage system to trade goods for hundreds of years before European settlers arrived. Today’s residents of Aurora and surrounding communities also know the richness of the soil and the resources that made the region a very special place to live. In partnership with The Conservation Foundation's Fox River Initiative |
