Featuring unforgettable songs audiences have fallen in love with again and again and a story that will make you want to stand up and cheer, Newsies is the perfect show to open up our ninth season.

High in the skyscrapers of New York City, Joseph Pulitzer is plotting a way to increase the revenue of his declining newspaper; while down in the streets, newsboys hawk papers on corners barely making enough to survive. Based on the 1992 movie, Newsies is a rousing musical nominated for 8 Tony Awards, winning Best Choreography and Best Score. Featuring music from Alan Menken, the 8-time Oscar-winning genius behind scores from some of the most popular Disney films of all time, including AladdinThe Little Mermaid, Pocahontas and Beauty and the BeastNewsies is refreshing, inspirational and a huge feel-good show for the whole family. The group originated with 17 oil pastel artists who had a gallery in a yellow house during the 2007 St. Charles Fine Art Show. The group has grown to include nearly 50 members who like to share the qualities of this little known medium. Members are interested in creating and showing their work as well as informing the public that Yellow House Artists use unique techniques, taking advantage of the special qualities of the medium. Oil pastels were developed in the 1940’s at the request of Pablo Picasso. He wanted a medium with the qualities of oil but with ease of application and portability. The oil pastel medium is pure pigment suspended in inert mineral oil, formed into sticks with a color palette much like oil paint. To the casual viewer, the appearance of the round or square sticks may belie the serious artistic application of this medium. Colors can be layered and blended, smeared or smudged, using fingers, some type of tool, or left as applied, all at the artist’s discretion. The works are generally framed under glass to protect the surface image. More information about the group and the medium can be found on their website: www.yellowhouseartists.com or by contacting them at yellowhouseartists@yahoo.com. If These Walls Could Talk Custom Framing & Gallery is co-owned and operated by Jennifer Rauch and Tim Frederick, each artists in their own right. The gallery has 1200 sq. feet of space in the main showroom and participates in Downtown Aurora’s First Fridays, a joint effort by local businesses to promote arts and culture. Oct 20    Newsies

STRAIGHT FROM THE HEADLINES of turn of the century New York comes the true story that had Broadway roaring before it even opened.

When Pulitzer raises the price of the paper, delivery boy Jack Kelly organizes a strike to show Pulitzer and his gang of cronies they’re not going to be pushed into the gutter.

Want good news? Then you want Newsies.
